 Plus points (+)

Suriya, who is popular for the Surya the Singham film series, after 2.5 years later, he comes with another action revenge drama movie that blows your mind. If you are a fan of Suriya, you know that Kanguva is the most awaited movie of his career.

First half is slow-paced and takes time to introduce characters; the first 30 minutes of the movie totally revolve around dramatic scenes of Francis Theodore and Angelina, where Francis Theodore, as Suriya, has dramatic, action, and romantic scenes that are okay, but his comedic dialogues look completely artificial, while Angelina, as Disha Patani, has nothing to do moreover, her role in this film is only to fill the screen and have some rival scenes with the hero.

While the second half is only for Suriya's fans, because director Shiva adds everything in the second half that his audiences want, like action, revenge, and violence, where Suriya appears in a new look and his performance is next level, a leader who goes any length to save his kabila, there are many scenes, especially in the second half, inspired by Ram Charan's 2009 film Magadheera directed by S. S. Rajamouli.

As we know, Suriya is the lead actor in this movie, but the most interesting thing is that he appears in a dual role (Kanguva and Francis Theodore). As we discussed above, the first half is totally revolved around the Francis Theodore character, who is a bounty hunter. As a dialogue writer, Madhan Karky did an awesome job, especially in the second half, where his violence-filled dialogues uplift the whole theater, but the problem comes in the Francis Theodore character's comedy dialogue, which is irritating instead of entertaining.

Disha Patani, who is the Barbie girl of the Bollywood industry, plays Angelina's role in this film. The first 45 minutes, she fills the screen size with her glamorous performance, then her character fades when Suriya's Kanguva character appears on the screen. The best thing about Disha Patani is that she is one female actress from the entire Bollywood industry who works with Prabhas as his girlfriend in Kalki 2898 AD, and now she again appears in a Tamil movie, becoming Suriya's ex-girlfriend on the screen.

After the success of the animal (2023) Bollywood movie, Bobby Deol once again comes on the screen, where he plays the role of Udhiran. When the Kanguva movie trailer was released, most of the people from North and South India searched the internet about Bobby Deol instead of Suriya because he looked very dangerous in this costume. If Suriya is the motorcar, Bobby Deol is its tires.

Minus Points (-)

Kanguva is the perfect example of an overhyped movie. When its trailer was released, it gained millions of views in one single day and was trending on YouTube and other social media websites. But when we watch this movie, we see its real face, where we clearly see that movie makers are injustice with other characters. Because Suriya's screen fill rate is 90%, but other characters like Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, KS Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Kovai Sarala, Mansoor Ali Khan, and others have a total screen fill rate of only 10%.

Vetri Palanisamy's cinematography is next level; it feels like we are watching Bahubali when action scenes arrive. Devi Sri Prasad's background music is the backbone of the film, but it is very loud. I clearly see that the audience who sat in the front seat of the cinema hall covered their ears with their hands. While Nishadh Yusuf's editing skills and background color are perfectly matched with the situation.
