Plus Points (+)
After giving solid hits in the past like the movie Nila (2016) and giving his best in the visual effects team in Life of Pi (2012), director Selvamani Selvaraj once again presents Kaantha, a fictional crime drama movie where Dulquer Salman and Bhagyashri Borse appear in the lead cast, while P. Samuthirakani and Rana Daggubati appear in the supporting cast.
Hello friends, if you love 1950s-style movies like Bell Bottom (2021), Detective Byomkesh Bakshy (2015), and other old-school-style movies with a modern look, I recommend Kaantha, because this movie brings you to the 1950s, where cinema is new and actor and director ego clashes entertain you till the end.
The first half is a mixture of suspense, drama, and thriller, where the movie begins with a shootout scene where we get visuals of a man drenched in rain with blood-stained footsteps. One thing you notice when you watch this movie is that the makers of this movie are adding everything the audience wants, like crime drama and thriller, while thesecond half is the combination of drama and some emotional moments.
After giving back-to-back superhit movies like Lucky Baskhar (2024) and Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra (2025), DQ, aka Dulquer Salmaan, once again appears on the silver screen, where he is playing the role of T. K. Mahadevan. No doubt Dulquer Salmaan is a talented actor; his natural acting and solid dialogue delivery steal the show. In the first half, his performance is next level, which brings a controlled intensity to the role, while on the other side, Bhagyashri Borse, who is playing the role of Raja Kumari in this film, becomes the bridge that connects Ayya and T. K. Mahadevan. Her performance is decent, but she adds emotional moments in this film.
Minus Points (-)
The first half is more interesting and engaging compared to the second half, because in the first half the movie follows an interesting pattern where suspense and ego classes grab the audience's attention, but the second half is slow-paced and of a large duration.
