PT Sir 2024 Tamil Movie: Critique

Plus Points (+)

After delivering a solid performance in "Veeran," Hiphop Tamizha Adhi stars in another romance-drama film, "PT Sir," alongside Kashmira Pardeshi and Anikha Surendran in the lead cast.

There are very few movies released in the past that discuss the harsh reality of women's lives in today’s society, where sexual assault cases are common. "PT Sir" attempts to address sexual harassment that was often taken for granted by previous generations.

If you belong to Generation Z or the Yo Yo generation and think that "PT Sir" is an old-school drama movie, that's not true. This film highlights society's attacks on victims of sexual harassment and stresses a woman’s freedom to dress as she deems fit.

The first half is more enjoyable, featuring Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's comedic dialogues and romantic scenes with actress Kashmira. However, after the interval, the movie becomes serious, revolving around court cases and women's rights. This is good, but some overly emotional and artificially dramatic scenes may irritate the majority of viewers.

Music is an essential part of every movie, and you can't imagine one without it. Hiphop Tamizha Adhi, being the music composer himself, knows what the audience wants. The first half's music scores are decent, but the second half's songs are not memorable. The background music is okay.

I appreciate Director Karthik Venugopalan's hard work in showing how our society tends to blame women for assaults, and that men should be held accountable for such crimes through this movie.

Casting Pandiyarajan and Munishkanth as comedians was the best decision by Director Karthik Venugopalan and his team. Without comedy, the movie would be like the moon without light. The first 30 minutes lack excitement as the film revolves around Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's day-to-day life as a PTI teacher.

Pandiyarajan and Munishkanth are both wonderful and talented actors but have limited screen time, which is a bit disappointing for viewers who come to watch the film only for the comedy.

To conclude, the movie's first half is fast-paced, mixing comedy, drama, and romance, with decent music by Hiphop Tamizha Adhi. The background music is appreciable. The second half combines action, drama, and emotion, with Director Karthik Venugopalan focusing on the harsh realities faced by women in our country.

Hiphop Tamizha Adhi plays the lead role of Kanagavel, a PTI teacher in a school in Erode, Tamil Nadu. His performance in the first half is wonderful, capturing the audience's attention with his comedy and drama. In the second half, his performance is decent, but due to bad writing and unnecessary emotional scenes, he fails to maintain the momentum from the first half.

Anikha Surendran, in the lead role, delivers a fantastic performance and becomes the center of attention in the second half. She handles a difficult role with great skill and delivers an almost perfect performance. Her emotional scenes are moving, especially with Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's background music.

After a beautiful performance in "Paramporul," Kashmira Pardeshi plays Vanathi, an English teacher. The romantic scenes between her and Hiphop Tamizha Adhi are decent, and her lovely nature and fantastic facial expressions keep the audience's eyes glued to the screen.

Surendran, Devadarshini, and the supporting cast do their parts well. Pandiyarajan and Munishkanth's comedy dialogues and silly jokes steal the show.

Thiagarajan, known for his natural acting and good dialogue delivery, appears briefly in the first half but becomes the center of attraction in the last 35 minutes of the second half.

Minus Points (-)

Director Karthik Venugopalan's intentions to showcase the cruelty against women in society are good, but the film is less engaging.

Kashmira Pardeshi is very talented and good-looking but has limited screen time. The songs by Hiphop Tamizha Adhi are not heart-touching, but his background music adds tremendous strength to the film, especially during the romantic scenes.

There are many scenes in the name of humor that are hard to digest and looks like 18+ or adult jokes, such as a child being portrayed as a potential competitor to the hero for the lady's love and a cringe-worthy joke involving a school teacher discussing a male student's private parts.

Many supporting actors have more potential than the lead cast but appear only once or twice on screen. Pandiyarajan and Munishkanth are the only notable comedy actors in the film.

Technical Aspects

Director Karthik Venugopalan, known for making multiple genre movies, comes with another romance-drama film after the success of "Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja." Casting Kashmira Pardeshi adds a romantic touch to the movie, but her role is limited.

Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's acting is decent, but his music does not leave a lasting impression. However, his background music adds a romantic taste in the first half. Cinematography by Madhesh Manickam and editing by Prasanna G.K are good.

Conclusion

"PT Sir" is a comedy, drama, and romance movie where Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's background music and acting play important roles. There are a few scenes with dark or adult comedy. Overall, the first half is more interesting compared to the second.
