Synopsis

Maaman is the story of Inba, a dedicated man who runs a successful sweet and savory business in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. After the loss of his father, Inba shares a deep bond with his sister, Girija, and would go to any lengths for her happiness. Girija and her husband, Ravi, have struggled with childlessness for over a decade, facing relentless societal pressure—especially from her harsh mother-in-law. Their prayers are finally answered when Girija becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby boy, Lattu. However, the real twist begins after Inba marries Rekha. Little Lattu, emotionally attached to his uncle, struggles to adjust and insists on staying with Inba. Torn between his responsibilities as an uncle and his commitment to his new wife, Inba begins spending more time with Lattu, leaving Rekha feeling neglected. Tensions rise as both Inba and Rekha fight for Lattu’s affection.

Plus Points (+)

Hello friends, nowadays audiences' tastes in movies change with time. Before 2019, Tamil movie directors mainly focused on action and thriller movies; now they focus on family drama movies. Maaman falls in the same category where family drama and comedy are the backbone of the movie.

After giving back-to-back action and thriller movies like Vilangu (2022) and Bruce Lee (2017), now director Prasanth Pandiyaraj puts his hands in the family drama movie Maaman (2025).

If you are tired from your 9-to-5 job and finding best Tamil family drama movie that you can see with friends and family, I recommend Maaman , because this movie is the complete mixture of comedy , drama , romance, and real-life incidents. Back to the topic, the first half of the movie revolves around family drama, where Soori and Swasika steal the show with their performances, while the second half is more focused on Soori and Aishwarya Lekshmi.

After giving a solid performance in Viduthalai Part 2, Ramalakshmanan Muthuchamy, aka Soori, once again comes back with Maaman. His performance in this movie is outstanding as an maternal uncle but a little bit weak as a husband.

Minus Points (-)

There's no doubt that Director Prasanth Pandiyaraj brings a unique take on family drama, which is a good idea. However, from an audience's perspective, this type of movie tends to falter in the second half. While the first half is entertaining, the second half lacks unpredictability, making it easy for viewers to predict how it will end.
