Plus Points (+)
After the back-to-back success of Raayan (2024) and Kuberaa (2025), Dhanush once again comes with a family drama movie where Dhanush, Arun Vijay, and Shalini Pandey appear in the lead cast.
Nowadays big superstars of Tamil cinema become both directors and actors in Idly Kadai. Dhanush is both, while others, like Akshay Kumar and Amir Khan, follow the same path as Dhanush.
The first half is a mixture of family drama and some heroic moments, which is good for grabbing the audience's attention in the beginning of the movie, but the second half is only for Dhanush fans because the second half is the perfect combination of action, thriller, and drama, where the fight between Dhanush and Ashwin will blow your mind.
If you are a family man or thinking about watching a movie with family, I think Idly Kadai is the best choice for you because, first, it is directed by Dhanush himself, and second, in this movie there are no any type of adult scenes, only family drama and action, while on the other side, G. V. Prakash Kumar's background music is the backbone of the movie, especially in the second half.
After Pa Paandi (2017), Rajkiran and Dhanush are once again both together working in Idly Kadai, where Dhanush is playing the role of Murugan while Rajkiran is playing the role of Sivanesan. In the first half, Dhanush's performance is outstanding, while in the second half, we see his new avatar, like how an ordinary man becomes extraordinary. While Sivanesan's performance is decent,
Minus Points (-)
No doubt Dhanush is a well-known actor and director all over India, but in his direction, the first half is more engaging and interesting compared to the second half because of pacing issues. If Shalini Pandey is given more freedom to express herself, it will be better for the film.
